The first episode of Aamir Khan's talk show or whatever it would be know as, definitely was an eye opener for many, including us. I for sure, never knew, many of the things told on this show. How and when did this female foeticide started. And of course, it was a revelation to know that the urban areas are more involved in this organized crime. How, none of the doctors, ever, have been accused of this heinous crime and none have had at least their licenses revoked, leave aside serving the time in penitentiary.
First of all, am sold out to the perspective of Aamir Khan, where by he has chosen to telecast his show on Sunday noon, very daunting. Then he is showing it off on Doordarshan network as well, makes his reach go multifold in comparison to the other shows. So, he is trying to do something, fulfilling his responsibilities towards the society using the talent and position he has in the best possible manner. And still, he wants to make proper business sense, he wants to attain total and undivided attention of idiot box viewers at that time, wants to earn out of this show as well, so as to be able to continue this effort in future. That's a wonderful blend of social initiative with business acumen.
About the details of the show, we were amazed and shocked to know about the two reporters, Mr Shaktawat and Meena jee who traveled for thousands of miles, unearthed 100+ doctors and clinics, who were ready to do the illegal sex determination and abortion for as less as Rs 2000/- only. And the tragedy is, these two have been victimized for the report they made. They have to travel to far flung locations till now for providing witness stand there, while all those doctors still continue practicing.
For us, it was particularly difficult, 'cos our daughter was asking so many questions. In the first break, me and my wife looked at each other to decide, if we want to go down this lane. Our little one had so many questions about it and when we explained to her, what Aamir is primarily talking about, she was like, why do people do it. उनको क्या फरक पड़ता है ? When the Delhi female was narrating her incident, and she said my mother-in-law pushed the cart and said this many times, my daughter was like, what is she saying and who is this m-i-l. And I told her, उन बच्चों की दादी, and she was shell shocked about how is this possible, how can any Dadi do this?
Aamir mentioned about the NGO Snehalaya and the website went down, not able to handle the load. It is back up after more than 20 hours downtime, but that's alright. Last, but not the least, the song "O Ri Chiraiya" by the duo Ram Sampath and Swanand Kirkire was outstanding.....बेहतरीन ...लाजवाब|
We are living in the capital, looking at all the hospital advertisements, showing and talking promptly about the IVF centres they have opened and it seems, that our new generation is not able to do properly, what's natural and are seeking external help for it. I don't yet know if there is a way to make sure the IVF babies are of which sex, but am just hoping, it is not like that.
This was an excellent beginning to the show, am hoping he got the coverage and people's attention that he was seeking. The message delivered to the masses in the best possible manner using the best medium of current times. He touched our heart, proclaiming from the beginning "Dil pe lagegi, tabhi baat banegi".
My humble salute to Aamir Khan for this. You have touched the right cords buddy ....you rock! And we are looking forward to the rest of the 15 episodes in this first edition.
