It is shameful to hear it all in the news, so shameful that I want to
change the channel. I can't see and hear all those news, sitting at
home, feeling so very bad, about not being able to do anything about any
of the things happening all around....gosh.
What kind of a society are we becoming. Who are these people, who could grope on a school girl. And it is unimaginable, what would be going on inside her mind all that while. And now, when after a week, all around them, people are talking about her, everybody in the town knows her, all around the country. God, what would the girl, her family members be doing, how would they be living with all these people haunting for them, for no fault of their own.
It gives shiver in my spine to think, what will happen, when she goes back to the school, how will her batch mates and teachers and the staff accept her. In a country, where even parents say that "मुंह कला करके आ गयी है kulta करम जली" for anything bad that happens with a girl, while for all practicality in the world, it wasn't her fault at all. Still we hear so many cases of girls committing suicide after a rape or molestation attempt. That isn't because she can't deal with it. But, it is mostly because she can't deal with the whole world, her parents, peers, anybody she meets on the road, everybody thinks her of as a sinner and as if she is a thing and available to all. Hello...she is the victim, not the perpetrator of the crime.
What do some people say these days....क्या जमाना आ गया है....छोटे छोटे बचों को मां-बाप मोबाइल दे देते हैं | Mall culture आ गया है | Hello, you tell me what to do. If I have a young daughter and I want her to live life to the fullest, enjoy with friends, go watch a movie, eat out, do shopping and roam around. But, as I can't keep her safe just because all of you people who have not taught your son's about life's moral values and females and how to respect females as they have also come out of a female womb. So, again, because I can't keep her safe from all these bastards roaming around the streets, I give my daughter a mobile, give her a car to drive before she is eligible to drive, and of course tell them that they can freely go to the mall, as it is comparatively safer place than rest. Am in a better peace of mind, if she has gone to a mall than any place else.
Westernization is better in these situations Babaji...at least there, a girl, a woman is not considered culprit and not asked for what time it was and what place it was and why you were there at this time and why you were wearing this thing. She isn't molested even after a week/month with all the drama by the NCW and CMO and of course all the dozen news channels
earning their bread from this. West does respect their women far more and do not consider it their fault if something like this happens.
And I don't know how to ask for good senses for the men behind this. I feel for the families. Amar Jyoti Kalia's parents must be very ashamed right now and same for the other family members of all these people. He looks so much like a normal person with happy smile and a facebook profile.
I have lived in Assam for many years and I know how loving the people of Assam are. I want to say this to all the people in Guwahati, to all the students and the teachers. You all are so intelligent and esteemed, and I already know you understand the situation. Think of that girl and think of your family members, your sister/mother in that situation, am sorry if you feel bad, but think and then do/act/say whatever you want to. That's the only appeal I want to make to the whole of Guwahati and Assam. Am sure, your acts would not cause the girl any pain. Let the girls live as free as girds. We are already so much ashamed by this kind of heinous acts by some of the people of our gender.
I hope good sense prevails upon all of you, especially the media- you guys, please stop molesting the victims till long after.
I don't know how I can help sitting here at my place, going to office everyday in the morning, not taking the wrong turn and stopping on the red light, not buying the pirated DVD and switching off the lights for the Earth Hour, giving the nominal Rs 1000 per month to the World Vision of India and thinking I have done my due, fulfilled my responsibility for the country and feigning ignorance for the rest. I don;t want to feign...I want to do something to improve things...better all of us including myself, as a society.
Please, can you tell me....what else should I do?
